it is the cold...

It rolls through my mind,

A marble in space.

It flares,

It huddles,

And then shatters again.

At least it is something.

But I am cold,

Everything is so cold.

My skin is like ice.

Even on the hottest day,

All I touch is warmer than I.

I pick it up,
And at my touch,

It freezes.

Like rain on a tree,

In the depths of winter's sea.

Like night it steals over everything.

We accept it.

But we fear it.

There's nothing we can do.
