"Hey, Cade." Dallas Winston, a "well known hood" walks up to Italy Cade. He'd only talked to her once before... "You got plans tonight?" "Uh... No..." "You're having dinner with me... So don't make any." "What?" "I'll pick you up at nine." "Me?" "I just asked you didn't I?" "Yeah but why?" "You're feisty... I like that." He walked off.

(9 o'clock) "Italy Cade." Dally held his hand out. She took it and walked out of her house. She lived alone, even though she was fourteen and a half. Her parents left her to die... somehow she made it through. They walked behind a guy with black hair in complicated swirls and another guy wih rust colored sideburns. They walked the same way for a while until: "Are you stalking me?" The black haired guy turned around. "Oh! No! I!-" "I wouldn't mind being stalked by someone as pretty as you." Redhead smiled. "Hey! Having fun?" Dallas snarled at them. "No, you see when I saw this sweetie pie," He motioned to Italy. "I felt a flash of inspiration to stop." Swirly smarted off. Dally put his arm around Italy's waist and walked off. "Forget the dinner," Dally said. "I think they're going to the same place we were. I don't want to take any chances." He smiled. Italy had never seen him smile like that. Dally suddenly, as if instantly, appeared behind her. He wrapped his arms around her from behind. Her heart slowed and breathing rate increased as he kissed her neck. The maroon color drained from her lips then the tan color from her face then the jet black color from her hair. Her skin was now grey, her lips blue-purple, and her hair white. She looked young but just dull. Her eyelids fluttered. Her body fell limp. Her breath left with one exhale. Dally pulled back, smiling. He snapped and different colors of dust: blood red, jet black, tan, deep maroon, shot from his fingers to an abandoned building, setting it on fire. He was burning her essence along with her body. Italy wasn't breathing, but if someone found her she'd still have a chance. Dally carried her to a window and-
-BOOM!- ~FLASH!~ Pouring down rain... Italy gasped and breathed in the tan, black, and maroon dust. The fire shrunk and the color returned to her body. "Goddammit!" Dally screeched. Italy started coughing, gasping for air. Suddenly Dally lifted his hand up and the fire immediately stopped. Italy breathed in the last of the dust: the blood red. She coughed trying to catch her breath when-
-CRASH!- She jumped and fell out of Dally's arms. She laid on the ground, weak and tired. "I can't believe it..." Dally mumbled, turning toward the way they came. "You did this..." Italy whispered. She stood up and started running. Dally turned back around. "What are the odds?- NO!" Dally jumped down from out of nowhere and snatched her up from behind. He gripped her shoulders, her right shoulder in his left hand and vice versa. "You think you can get away from me?" He scowled, tightening his grip on her. "NO!" She shrieked with the voice she had left, struggling to get free. She could barely breathe as it was but because his arms were strangling her ribs she was basically suffocating. "Ohhh no, I ain't losin' you again. Lets go."
Tim Shepard, Curly Shepard, and Dally cornered Italy in an alleyway up against the far back brick wall. "Why won't you just leave me alone!" she shrieked. "Get it through your skull child!" Dallas snapped and turned back to the two. "If we finish it now no one will know our mistake! I hate angels and the last thing I want right now is to hear a lecture on this!" The two nodded and Dally pulled a heater out of his pocket. "NO!" Italy screamed. "PLEASE!" "Don't you get it Cade!? There's nothing you can do! Face the facts! Just hurry up and get this over with so I can go home and sleep..." Curly moaned. "Sorry." Tim turned to Italy and -click!- loaded the gun. "It's just so sad that I have to turn a beautiful little creature like you into a bullseye target." "No! Don't! Please!" POW! Italy ducked down just in time that the bullet struck the brick wall. "She's got guts, I'll give her that..." Curly mumbled. "HEY!" They looked at Dally. "Tim gimme the gun." Tim handed Dally the gun. He pointed it up at the sky and loaded it with a -click!-. He raised his eyebrows. "I'll do it." He said in a lighter voice. He pointed the gun down from the sky aiming at her chest. He stepped forward a bit, stroked the side of her head, and stepped back. He nodded at Curly and Tim. They grabbed her arms and held her still against the wall. Dally smiled as his finger went for the trigger. She looked pleadingly at Tim. "I'm sorry." He mouthed. Italy squeezed her eyes shut and scrunched up against the wall. "*Edward I love you." She said in a shaky tear-laced whisper. There's no way out of this one...
(*Edward- Italy's best and only friend)
A girl jumped down from a fire escape ladder above. She had rusty short hair and dancing silvery eyes. "Italy! My dear, dear friend!" She hugged Italy, punching Tim and Curly in the face in the process. "Have you forgotten?! It's me! Two-buloo-la- Taloola! Geez you have a bad memory!" She had pushed herself between Italy and the attackers! "Um..." Italy said. "Are you hitting on her?!" The girl suddenly snapped at Dally. "Because she's not that kinda girl!" She said. Dally laughed. She grabbed his arms and twisted them behind his back. "You'd better hand it over, before someone gets hurt." She said referring to his gun. Dally's arms disappeared then reappeared free. "Later..." He mouthed. Tim and Curly nodded. They disappeared in the blink of an eye. The girl ran away. "No!" Italy yelled. "No..." Her knees gave out and she collapsed.
When she woke up, she was on a couch. She sat up. A guy was in the kitchen. He was wearing jeans and was barefoot. He had no shirt on. He looked up. "You're awake?" He said. Italy was breathing heavily, but she managed to nod. He turned off the stove, put down a spatula, wiped his hands in a towel, and walked in the living room. "Long story: Our buddy found you passed out cold in the lot, it was pourin', and we didn't want you to get sick so we brought you back. My name's Darry." "I'm Italy..." she said. "And thank you." Her nose was stuffy. "You must be scared." Darry walked back into the kitchen to put up the towel. Italy nodded, tears started streaming down her cheeks. Darry came over to the couch and he hugged her. She cried. She didn't care if she met him only five minutes ago. She sobbed into his chest like he was her dad. He stroked her hair. "Shhhhhshshshhh... It's gonna be alright... Just do as I say Italy, and it will... I'm here now to guarantee your safety... If you could just trust us all..." Someone walked in the door. Two boys. One older than the other. "Hey y'all. Did you see that kid and the guy that looked like Dal' last night? Glory she looks like she's only what? Fourtee-" He looked at Italy, paused, then slowly walked over. He bent down and held her chin up. "Ow..." she said. "Steve!" Darry yelled from the kitchen. "Sorry!" Steve says. The younger boy sat on the couch beside her. "I'm Ponyboy." "I'm Italy." "Hi. Oh and this is Steve." Ponyboy said. "He's rude, but deep down he's kind and warmhearted. He'll give you some trouble but he'll take care of you and once he takes you under his wings, he will never betray you..." "I didn't like the first half of that." Steve said, then turned to Italy. "You were real cute last night kid." "Steve," Darry said, walking in. "Don't talk about it..." "Uh oh." Ponyboy walked out and went upstairs. "Why not-" "Randle!" Darry warned. "What?" Steve said. Darry grabbed his arm and yanked him out into the hall. Italy heard bickering. And she didn't know why but her eyes start getting teary... She started to cry. Two more boys walked in the front door as Steve walked back in. "Huh?- Did you make the kid cry?!" The redhead walked over to Steve. "No!" He said, slightly offended. "I would never do anything to upset her..." "That her Dare?" The blonde one said. Darry nodded, walking back into the kitchen. "I'm Sodapop." The blonde said. "She's cute! I like her!" The redheaded guy said. Italy stared at him. "What?" He finally said. "Oh... You just look familiar..." Italy said. The guy smiled. "You forgot me! And I thought we'd be bestest girlfriends! What a shame." He smiled. 'N-no way!' Italy thought. It was the girl from before! She! Was a he! "Italy you look like you've seen a ghost!" Darry walked in. "The name's Two-Bit." He smiled sexily. He reached up and stroked Italy's cheek, wiping a tear away. "Two-Bit!" Darry snapped. "Watch how you're treatin' the poor kid!" "You must be terrified..." Sodapop waked over and kneeled down in front of Italy. He took her hands in his and looked into her eyes. "It's going to be okay..." Italy bent down and hugged him. He hugged her back tight, like he was her big brother. "I promise..." Italy felt a few tear drops drip onto her back as she cried, gripping his shoulders and back. Soda was crying too. "I won't let anyone hurt you..." Italy sobbed out loud, the soft kind that sounds so pitiful and melancholy. Sodapop started humming 'Brahms Lullaby'. By this time everyone was watching silently from the kitchen doorway.
