when your mind

tears your soul down

the echoes blow the windows out

you're living in a palace

of broken things

with shadows in the corners

and skeletons

on the dance floor

and every day is

a weak-kneed masquerade

no invitations

attendance is mandatory

the reflections we all see

are shallow, and flickery

blinking in and out of focus

blink- don't blink

where is your safety

blink and you die

so keep your eyes steady

expression fixed

mask in place

and dagger concealed

targets on backs

you are the quarry

yet circle your prey

we disintegrate or devour

because those are the choices

we are given
