We ran madly, howling like dogs, beaten and bloody, dripping sweat onto the leaves, breathing rain. It was damp and cold and the air smelled like secrets.  Our makeup was melting; your eyes looked like 2am, they wore no mask.  The words were in italics as they fell from our lips and we existed to each other only.  Were we dead?
We shimmered and shook, distorted the landscape with our fingertips and breathed fire. In the middle of nowhere, at the apex of the maelstrom, we held each other close.
We held hands on the last night on earth, drew our swords beneath the apocalypse sunset and ran into the fire, screaming that we were not afraid.  Defiance was our last act before we died violently, laughing like maniacs.
