"Playing the Role of God"

Rhaderica Repass

For centuries and still today there has been an ethical debate about humans overstepping their role and "playing god". This is referring to a person or people performing actions that is believed that only God should. The people arguing this say that there are some things in life that man has no business having his hand in. Differing the religious supporters say that god gives man the ability to gain this special knowledge and use it to his/her advantage. Oddly enough though the main disagreement is not over man trying to mock God or be like him it's that opposers think man are trying to prove he is not needed.
The major modern issue right now is Genetic Engineering. This is man’s manipulation of an organism’s genetics through science. Through this you can choose the hair, eye and even skin color of your unborn child.   However the problem is some think instead of people being happy with what God has blessed them with they create a "dream" baby.
Another large issue is the prediction of Armageddon. The bible says that only the creator knows when the end of the world is. So obviously when scientists constantly pursue trying to guess when it will end it creates complications. To some people with foundations in religions they just ignore it, but to others it is very offensive and feel as if it's a mockery of God.
Lastly another up to date argument is abortion. This is when a woman has decided for whatever circumstances that she does not want to keep her child. From the time of its legalization, this has been the a huge controversy. The main argument is that if God deemed a woman ready to be a mother, who is she to change that. Many people stand firm in their belief of this and also say that God decides when life is ended. Therefore this is looked upon as man terminating life however they please and going against a new birth that God created.
Every act of creation is first of all an act of destruction.” That is a famous quote from Pablo Picasso and to supporters it means that no matter what scientist are able to do, some will agree and some won't and that's the rule of life no matter who created it.

That last statement is quite true: no matter what happens some people will agree with it and others will not.
