CHAPTER-3  THERE I WAS AGAIN

"You know what time it is boy!"

My aunt Juliet snatched bread from my numb hands."You think I sent you out for prowling? Huh!"

Her words were sounding like a faraway fading voice that made no sense to my ears for my mind was already occupied by something. It was being dwelled by some unanswered questions, by some untold horror and some unguessed apprehensions.

"Who was she?" I reflected in my loneliness but that was like searching for a needle in a deep dark well for I knew nothing. I tried to clear the phantoms from my head thinking it was all a figment of my imagination but all in vain.

The next day when I got a break after doing lunch dishes, I carefully peeked into their room. They were all asleep. I tip toed to the front door and made my way out as quietly as I could.

"Should I do this?" I frowned with dubiety, "Well they won't know and I'll be back before they wake up", I tried to reassure myself and with that I headed towards the station.

"What if I don't see anything there this time?"

The thought was not appeasing and so I shook my head as if all these doubts might just fall from it. I hastened towards my destination.

It was deserted and this time I was not even accompanied by the shopkeeper. I sat on a broken rusty bench and stared long towards those woods. The sun was setting and it had been half an hour already with no success so far. I bent my head down with an air of a defeated warrior and stood up ready to return.

Just as I was about to turn my back towards the woods I sensed a movement. The last blood red rays of the sun shone upon the white figure that was floating between the trees but this time it was drifting away from me, into the depth of the forest. My eyes were wide open and horror could be seen lingering in them.

I unknowingly stepped back for I did not like my lone presence there and was scared to death.

"Oh! She's here.....uh!"

I whispered and right at that moment she stopped. Did she actually hear me? The white slender body began to turn. In just a few moments she would have faced me but I couldn't stay there a minute longer. So I turned and ran away as fast as my legs could carry and it was then when I heard it.

An intense heartrending sobbing coming from behind me.
