This piece is about the icy chill that runs down your spine when at first your realize you've lost your mind

A Mind Astray

By Henry Duthler

What through winters fingers slips

Like tears let loose by winds of change

Withered flowers that lay beneath

White silk that covers their remains

The silent whisper, it's icy breath

That chill that holds you in its embrace

Like stolen prayers from these lips

Shall escape no more, from this place

The hour has now long since passed

The etchings of a mind astray

Left like memories carved within

That never can bind these ties that fray.

This poem has an inspired choice of simple words that compliment one another and remarkable balance, which I imagine should be the main aim of a poem.
