Acutely Alone

By Henry Duthler

It's subtle

Silent, motionless

Easy to miss

The way it catches your eye though

If you notice it

It holds you

Creeps inside

And sinks in

Its subtle

Quiet and strange

hard to resist

It has a certain charm to it

If you notice it

within you

Hidden away

in plain sight

its subtle

Alive and aware

Misshapen and bent

To consume all that you are

If you notice it

The way it finds you

Naive, scared

and acutely alone
