A A A

I sit alone in the dark,

wondering what the night brings,

I hear the distant gunfire,

hoping it no longer rings.

Then a thud, and a whomp, then an explosion near by,

A few of the soldiers start to unleash their battle cry.

I take up my position, poised for the fight,

wondering what else could happen tonight.

It's never a question that's answered,

never a story I could tell,

but as I sit in the dark,

I watch as we unleash Hell.

Never knowing our future,

we do not hesitate to fire,

the shots ring out like a endless chior.

The smoke settles back,

no one is down,

we relax for a moment,

but never let our guard down.

Then it's silent once more,

I stare out into the night,

taking inventory of our loss,

I thank God we were lucky tonight.
