I woke up in the dark staring at a man sized hole in the roof. I can barely see past the opening of the hole but I soon realise I must have fallen a long way down. I slowly sit up and look around to see I'm in a large cavern. There are a few torches along the walls that allow me to see clearly. I check myself for any damage but there doesn't seem to be any visible damage. That's when I realise something, I don't have a clue who I am, how I got here, or what I'm even doing here. I remove a bag from my back and check what's inside for clues. I find nothing except for the remains of a journal that seems to have had the pages torn out. I guess they must have fallen out when I fell. I decide there's no point in just sitting around so I get up and grab the nearest torch from the wall. As I walk along the dark I try to work out what I do remember. I know I'm 16 and its the year 2053 but I can't remember much else. As I travel through the dark cave making constant right and left turns I find nothing but more darkness. I'm beginning to think I'm walking in circles and that there's nothing else here but darkness, until I come upon another passage way leading to an almost pitch black cavern. It doesn't look like there's much here until I notice something in the corner glinting from the light of my torch.
"What's that?" I said, as if someone would answer. "Great, now I'm talking to myself." I walk along towards the strange object in the corner when suddenly I hear something. Footsteps? No it can't be. Then I hear it again, getting closer and louder. I drop the torch and duck behind a large cluster of rocks, then peak my head round slightly to see what it was. What I saw walk in to the cavern at that moment shocked me in a way so indescribable, I was beginning to think I'd hit my head harder than I originally thought. A walking Human skeleton. How is this possible? Where am I? I had so many questions that couldn't be answered. The skeleton looked around the room, I assume it must have heard me. The skeleton walked right over to the rocks I was hiding behind. I had no way of escape if it found me and even if I did escape, where would I go? I close my eyes and hope that any moment now I'll wake up from a bad dream and be back home, although that's another thing gone from my memory. I lower myself down to the ground as much as possible to try and conceal myself. My hand falls on a small rock and I have a plan. With the skeleton nearing I pick up the rock and throw it back outside the room and I hear the rock bang against the floor and so does the skeleton. It turns with a sharp twist and it's so close now I can hear its bones creaking as it moves. The skeletons stands motionless for a moment facing the way it came from, then it starts to walk away again towards the sound the rock made outside. When the skeleton finally leaves I emerge from behind the rocks, pick up the torch I dropped and continue walking towards the object I noticed earlier. As I get closer to the object I begin to make out the shape of a wooden box with metal rims shining from the light. I kneel down and carefully open the box, like it was some sort of bomb that would go off any minute. Inside I found 2 items, a bronze key and what I recognise to be a page from my journal.
"Wait! A page from my journal? How did this get here?" I look at the page with confusion as to how it got here. None of this makes sense, walking skeletons, never ending tunnel systems, Pages of my journal disappearing then reappearing in strange places. "What is this place?" I take the page from the box, my journal from my bag and find the tear that matches. As I place the page in to the journal a light shines from the tear and suddenly the page is back in the journal, the tear gone. I hope that the page I found can shed some light on the situation and read it out loud to myself.
"Page 2. I've taken my first steps on my quest in to the dungeon. This place is already giving me the creeps, but I should be used to this by now. After all I am a Dungeon Hunter and a P-." The next word is too smudged to read, but I continue reading. "It's very dark in here. Darker than usual. I haven't seen anything of interest yet, but I will update the journal once every hour with my findings."
That's all that I seem to have wrote for the first log. I wonder exactly how many pages I wrote. Maybe this key I found will help me find a way out, or at least help shed some more light on things. The good thing is I got some information. I know this isn't any old cave, it's a Dungeon, and I'm a dungeon hunter. I'm here for a reason, a quest, I just don't know what it is yet. I place my journal back in my bag as well as the key. I stand up and walk back towards the way I came in and the place I last saw the skeleton. I carefully lean my head out to see if it's still there but there's no sign of it.
I walk around the dungeons multiple passage ways finding many dead ends. "At least there's no skeletons around." I hear footsteps coming from behind me and immediately realise what's coming and where I am. "Shit!" I'm at a dead end, with no escape from the skeleton that could appear at the end of the tunnel any second. I step backwards until I'm up against the wall. I stand waiting for the inevitable when suddenly something starts shining in the wall behind me. I turn around and step away from the wall to see a key hole appear in the wall. Something in my bag begins to glow so I take it off and check it out. In my bag I see the key I found earlier glowing the same way the key hole just was. I take the key out of my bag, put my bag back over my shoulders and walk towards the wall where the key hole is. I place the key in the key hole and the entire wall starts to glow. The lights pretty intense but not enough to blind me. The light fades away and I stand staring at the space where the wall previously was.
"Another Tunnel."
