You were in New York
In 37
When Lester Young played

His cool saxophone
Up on the bandstand,
With some others guys;

And he smiled and winked
At you, seemed to dig
The way you swayed to

His soft sounding sax
Improvisation
That rooted in you

Right down your feet
Tapping on the floor,
And you wanted more,

Wanted his eyes half
Closed to take you in
To his very soul

And settle you there
Amongst the blue notes
Drifting in the air.
