I ran. I felt my heart beating, my lungs burning, my chest aching. I felt the suppressed victory in my chest, waiting to be realized and, subsequently, released.

I felt the stares of millions of people, their presence a mere heartbeat as sound swelled, heartbeats beat in unison with the slapping of our feet on the hard track.

I felt how close i was to winning. How i could almost taste the cold surface of the medallion, it's scratchy tie against my sweat-slicked neck.

I was here to win.

My name is Lura. Lura Skott. I am 15. I run track…'s my life. Nothing to me means more than the fast-paced beat of track, how our team constantly wins races.

I also love my parents. For 5 years they have supported me-ever since my first meet when i was 10. They have bandaged my knees, called up top-rated psychiatrists and doctors.

But track fills something inside me.

It gives me purpose, a reason to push myself to the limit every day.
