The thoughts of a gorilla as he looks at a boy.

A Lot Like You.

Hey, there, Kid, I guess you’re young enough to see,

that we are really not so far apart – you are a lot like me.

Your finger it is pointing, and your eyes are staring too,

Our eyes are very similar, mine brown while yours are blue.

Just take a look at your own hand, then come and study mine,

Our hands are both so dexterous, we can manipulate things fine.

You are eating a banana, my keeper places one in my own hand;

We munch away in the same way, toss the skins just where they land.

But there is one big difference between gorillas and mankind,

We’d never keep you caged to entertain, I think that you will find.

We’re both about the same age now but soon older you will grow,

You’ll forget this one shared moment and will not want to know.

I turn away with a sense of such shame, such real sadness too,

That soon you will not want to see I’m just a lot like you!

Yeah, it's sad, caging animals, I remember going to the zoo years ago, and feeling sorry for them, because there was a bear who was pacing from one side of its enclosure, to the other, and back and forth, endlessly. They must get so bored!

Yep. And some of them are not looked after properly at all. The worst thing is that humans make out that they are so superior. Thanks for reading, Mike!
