This was written for a challenge at the BoMoWriCha Prompt House. The challenge was to make your character speak only in song lyrics, and to make it harder, use ones from just one band, singer etc. I've got to tell you -- this was hard!

A MUSE MOMENT

Kaydee knew that Ryder was unable to turn away from her, unable to say no to any of her desires. She had him just where she wanted; right in the palm of her hand. With one hand she forced him down on to his knees.

Ryder opened his mouth and sang, “Oooh Baby, don’t you know I suffer, Oooh Baby can you hear me moan. I thought I was a fool for no one, Oooh Baby, I’m a fool for you.”

When she had learned to manipulate, to influence people’s beliefs, she seized the chance to change the world to one of her liking. Everyone else could just put up with it, or not, their choice. They wanted to live, then they would live by her rules.

Ryder was not stupid, far from it. He could see exactly what she was doing. “Spell, cast a spell, cast a spell on the country you run.”

She did not bother trying to deny it. The fact that he was in love with her only made him so much easier to manipulate. She needed him on her side for if there was one person that could bring her creation to ruin it was him.

Don’t kid yourself and don’t fool yourself, this love’s too good to last and I’m too old to dream,” Ryder sang sadly, for he had loved Kaydee, he truly had until she had changed, become power-hungry. Turning away from her he had to admit, “I think I’m drowning, asphyxiating; I want to break the spell that you’ve created.”

A flicker of anger crossed her face. How dare he defy her? He was hers to command and the hard slap of her hand should help him remember that fact.

On the outside you’re ablaze and alive; but you’re dead inside.” Ryder’s eyes sparked in defiance. “You were my oppressor and I have been programmed to obey. Now, you are my handler, I will execute your demands.” He shook his head as though trying to clear his mind. “Leave me alone. I must dissociate from you!”

Not daring to remain in front of Kaydee a moment longer, Ryder ran, singing in a loud voice, “Declare this an emergency; come on and spread a sense of urgency.” He paused for a moment then continued, “Destroy this city of delusion. Break these walls down!”

More and more people gathered around Ryder, followed his dash towards a part of the city wall, one that he knew had a weakness. “I’ll show you a God, falls asleep on the job. Don’t waste your time or time will waste you. No one’s going to take me alive, the time has come to make things right. You and I must fight for our lives, you and I must fight to survive.”

It was a long and bitter battle but Ryder and his fellow fighters began to take control of the city, to reduce Kaydee’s crazed dominance. It was time for him to move on for there were other cities that needed to be freed. First, he wanted to motivate those that would stay behind. “Follow through, make your dreams come true. Don’t be afraid what your mind conceals, you should make a stand, stand up for what you believe and tonight we can truly say together we’re invincible.”

City after city were freed from her influence, people began to take back the power and regain control. Ryder was tired though, “War is all around, I’m growing tired of fighting. I’ve been drained, and I can’t hide it.”

Laika, who had been fighting beside him since the start put a hand on his weary shoulder. He turned to look at her. “You and me are the same. We don’t know or care who’s to blame. These wars, they can’t be won.” Ryder looked off in to the distance. “Come in to my life, regress in to a dream; we will hide, build a new reality.”
