Autocratic Stance

I thought I knew what I was doing; that I had some control.

I was wrong!

The war began and I had it all planned. Things would work out so much better; not just for myself but for all of us. We’d have a new beginning, a new start. Life would be good and I would be loved.

But then others stepped in and thwarted my plans. They wrestled and fought and seized that control, manipulating it this way and that until that control......well, it was lost! No one had it and chaos reigned.

And now no one is left – but me.

All alone with nothing but memories. And guilt......lots and lots of guilt. My family, my friends, acquaintances, all perished because I thought I could achieve.....what? Improvement? Perfection? Adulation? I’m trapped in the wreckage of my own delusion; alone in the disaster of my own making.

And you? You have all died, every one of you, because of my tyranny, my autocratic stance.

Me? I’m the last of our kind. The single remnant of a species that became too powerful for their own good.

All I have left are ghosts!
