Call To Court
A call to court
and all are gathered,
costumes on
and masks in place.
Stumbling through
choreographed steps
to play out the scene,
bring on the show.
Parts played out
now all are beckoned,
incognito loosens self-restraint
and those too genteel...
well, they’ll faint from shock,
or perhaps the heat
from heavy costumes,
stifling masks,
and the dance that never ends.
The masque has come to town.

Nice interplay of semi-anonymous formality and coy social interplay. Thanks for sharing. SPP
