Changed In The Night

Elouise, Ellie for short, was tired. In fact tired was an understatement; exhausted would be more of an apt description. As she had for the past thirteen nights, she would retire to bed at 10pm, fall into a fitful slumber the moment her head hit the pillow, then wake at midnight, unable to sleep again.

She had tried so many things. Reading for an hour before retiring, no technological devices after 8pm. She had tried yoga and meditation and herbal tea, none of which had made the slightest of difference.

This night, though, was different. She fell asleep instantly as she had before, but at midnight she began to dream. A stranger, tall, beautiful, approached her bedside. He did not try to touch her until she reached out for him, pulled him into her embrace, felt his lips upon her neck...

She tossed and turned the entire night through as her dream unfolded, but not once did she waken. Daylight woke her as it streamed through her window and she knew instantly that something had changed.

Her red satin sheets were now pure snow white. How could this be? It made no sense. She reached up her fingers to her neck, felt with her finger-tips. She dashed to the mirror, peered intently, but there was no sign. She had to be imagining it.

When she could not face her blood-soaked breakfast she finally had to accept that she had been changed in the night, and was a vampire no more.

Ha, an alternative vampire story. This is really good because I thought I had the ending sussed. Well done, Hully!

When I started I was going to go the more normal way, but then I could imagine the yawns, so I thought, why not. Thanks for reading, Jeff.

That's a new twist, Hully. The unvampiring of a vampire! You have a mischievous imagination, my girl.
