Cookies Can Seriously Damage Your Health.
It was a regular occurrence. Nothing unusual at all, apart from one of the men present had never taken part in the check before. Carefully co-ordinated, the President would run through the exact procedure for launching a nuclear attack, right to the final press of the button.
One could never be too careful. It paid to be ready to act at a moments notice, should the need arise. Regular rehearsals would ensure that there would be no chance of a hiccup.
Of course, food in such an environment was very much frowned upon, but this was the President you were talking about and he did not go anywhere – ANYWHERE – without his cookies! Who was going to stand up and say, ‘No!’
All went well, smoothly, straight to plan. The final stage had been reached, the one that was never initiated. It would all be wound down, back to ‘neutral but ready’, just like the President wanted.
He reached out for his last cookie, the double chocolate chip one that was his favorite of the batch. The cookie he had saved up to savour. His hand touched nothing; the plate was empty.
“Who has stolen my cookie?” he roared.
The stranger tried to surreptitiously wipe crumbs from his lips. Nobody had told him that they belonged just to the President and he had been so hungry,
“Answer me! Go on, own up!” The President, in his temper, thumped the surface in front of him, managing to depress that final button as he did so.
Everything went in to irreversible action. The final stage had been initialized and there was nothing they could do to stop it. All stood in open-mouthed shock, staring at the out-bound missiles and the inbound ones too. They were coming from all over the world.
World War 3 had begun and the world was ending, all for the sake of a double chocolate cookie.

That's as good of a reason as any. As usual you have stretched reality until it fractures under its own weight.
"Launch all cookies!," came the order from the man who played President," Excellent, Hull!
Ha-ha. Shows what a nasty temper can do - at least in one's imagination.
Anything's possible in this day and age. Good story, Hully!
Ha, the big baby threw his rattle out of the pram, threw an enormous temper tantrum with catastrophic results. I can see it now, Hully! Brilliant as always!
