Day Of The Unicorn

See that white horse over there
Galloping into the mist
She is off to a different world
One that she has missed.

A forest thick and magical
For one day of each year
Opens up and lets her through to
Where she shall feel no fear.

Upon her head there grows a horn
Spiralled and golden in colour
For she is a unicorn
A beast unlike any other.

Her mane and tail are silver
Her coat as white as snow
Her eyes so soft and gentle
Now with magic glow.

Friendly folk are there to greet
Their princess on her return
Fairies, elves and tree sprites
She nuzzles each in turn.

They fashion her a flower crown
Blooms orange, pink and red
She's off to meet her parents
And will wear it on her head.

They do not stand on ceremony
The regal queen and king
Instead they throw a party
Where all their subjects sing.

But the day draws to an end
She has to leave them all
Back to a field in another world
With her memories to recall.
