Elephant-Time

His grey-toned skin,

leathered,

weathered,

wrinkled and cracked,

but in spite of all this

his presence

remains impressive.

A calmness of bearing,

sedate and enormous,

legs thick,

strong,

carrying the weight

as he plods ever on;

taking it in,

the world,

the ruin.

His heart, slow and steady,

large and kind,

beats slowly and surely.

He bears you no ill will

in spite of the cruelty,

the ravaging,

the savaging,

the loss of his land.

The elephant has

a lot to teach

man.
