Eulogy

No black and white face

looking round at me;

green eyes,

pink nose,

and one hell of an attitude.

No more flopping down

around my feet

or rising up

for a stroke.

You almost talked;

I could understand you,

and I think that you

understood me too.

At least,

on those moments

when I needed it most

you’d be there

with a comforting purr.

My windows keep on

drawing my eyes,

searching for you

but there’s not a sign of

the black and white cat

who owned my heart.

You’ve gone...

and I think you have taken

most of me with you

to wander unseen,

unnoticed,

but you’ll never be

alone.
