Paws For Thought

Nova is a bit of a feline up-start; there’s no other way to describe him. The idea originally had been to name him Super Nova, and although that never happened I’m sure somehow he knew.

A cat with attitude, that’s for sure. He knows what he wants and he knows how to get it. Ignoring his wants is not an option for quite simply this cat will persist and persist. It is a case of, ‘Go ahead. Take no notice. But do so at your own peril.’

I can’t remember exactly the moment it happened. Nova became computer literate! He’s a crafty cat, a sly one, and it’s just by chance that I discovered his game. He kicked up such a kerfuffle in the kitchen that I left my laptop to see what was going on.

The kitchen was empty when I arrived but on returning to my laptop, I saw the tip of his tail vanish behind the screen. A message had been sent, but I’m sure it had not been sent by me. I peeked round the laptop, and Nova was laying there, nonchalantly licking one of his front paws. He couldn’t have, could he? No, the idea was just ridiculous.

Nova got a liking for it, tapping the keys, and he was really very good at it. He did not keep up the pretence for long, but quite blatantly demanded his typing time. It’s got to the stage now where I am considering buying him his own laptop.

I have noticed one thing about Nova, though. He will NEVER touch the mouse.

Jessie Boo has been known to press the keys before, but I don't think he's sent any messages! Thanks, Sue.

A few years back, I read a story of a researcher who taught a cat to recognize pictures on the screen and tap a specific key. If the picture wasn't what the cat wasnted, he would tap a different key and another picture would appear. It got so that the cat could ask for food, get picked up, go in/out the door, and play a cat-firendly sort of Whack-a-Mole on the screen. I've always thought my cats were smarter than me.

My stuffed bear doesn't know how to use a computer. Maybe I should trade him in on a cat. But then I'd have to feed him. I think I'll just enjoy reading about your cats instead. I enjoyed this cat's tale.

This one is not true, Joe, as I don't have a ginger cat or one called Nova. But Jessie Boo has been known to tap away at the keys and make me have to hit the backspace. Thanks so much for giving this a read.
