Payment Overdue

Traffic and the city just don’t seem to work any more. Too many vehicles clogging up too many streets. At least that was the reason they gave for the new ‘parking restrictions’.

An hour; not one second more. You dropped your coins or swiped your card, then kept track of every passing second.

Maurice had done this many times, had worked out exactly what he could get done. He barely had to watch the clock at all.

However, that only worked when things ran smoothly. There was a hold-up at the grocery check-out, some price dispute. He glanced at his watch. It was okay, he still had time.

Just as he paid for his purchases, he glanced at the time. And he ran! Five steps away from his car an electronic voice stated, ‘Payment Overdue’ and Maurice could only watch in horror as his car was crushed before him.
