Tap, Tap

In the darkness of your room,

in the quiet of the night,

you hear the strangest noise

that is giving you a fright.

Tap, tap.

You don’t know where it’s coming from,

you know it just sounds wrong,

like someone with a cane

is tapping out a song.

Tap, tap.

You are to old for a night-light

should have out-grown childish fears

but this is about the scariest

sound you’ve heard in years.

Tap, tap.

Your senses now are heightened,

you are shivering in fright;

will you ever see the end

of this, the longest night.

Tap, tap.

It’s coming from your window pane

of that you’re almost certain;

you tiptoe and you creep your way

to peek behind the curtain.

Tap, tap.

You brace yourself, you steal your nerves,

before you risk a glance;

not a ghoul or creature,

but just a simple branch.

Tap, tap.

Underneath the covers now,

back inside your bed,

you put to sleep those demons

that had awoken in your head.

Tap, tap.

The land of nod is calling you,

soon you are fast asleep,

but these nightmare fears aren’t giving up,

for you, this night, they’ll keep.

Tap, tap.
