To War!

You march together,

perfect time,

follow orders,

where’s the crime?

Stepping forward,

make a wall;

none shall pass,

no one at all.

Standing firm

together armed,

preventing each

from being harmed.

From the distance

they draw near,

fools, them all,

for they should fear;

you’ll show no mercy,

no compassion,

humanity

is out of fashion.

A war machine,

that’s what you are,

prepared to slaughter,

make a scar.

Not like you,

the enemy;

they’re not people,

can’t you see,

simply evil

that should flee.

You draw together,

the wall secure,

never will you

pause some more

but take a breath

and hold the trigger

automatic

the gap gets bigger.

Follow orders,

do not think

or your resolve

may start to shrink.

Don’t allow yourself

to question why,

or your enemy

will multiply.

Through narrowed gaze

they seem unreal

which makes it so

that you don’t feel.

Until it’s over,

when you look down,

upon your face

there forms a frown;

for you’re up to ankles

in real blood

and the truth

begins to flood.

Those you killed

were humans too;

blood and bone

just like you.
