Every muscle tense

Stressed

Quivering with desperation

To keep myself from sinking

Beneath the murky waters surface.

Wave after wave breaks over my heads

My eyes wide and filled with salt

My throat clogged with water

My lungs squeezed of precious air;

Then, suddenly

I go limp

Feeling at peace.

My head is heavy,

Warm,

Numb-

And I just stop thrashing

Overcome by the calm.

As the last wave breaks

I fall under

And keep descending downwards

Until the faint warm glow fades

And life stops.
