Listen as I tell you an old and forgotten tale,

A story about a man, a woman, and a love that wouldn't fail.

I've given you the summary, now here is the plot,

It should have been so simple, but like most of life it's not.

They should have met with happiness, that should have been the end,

Happily ever after? Well I guess we could pretend.

The story doesn't work that way, or else this would be the end,

We've still a while more to go, so read some more my friend.

The lovers were seperated, and she feared it'd be for all time,

it's hard to express her anguish in the words of my simple rhyme.

Her father was a tyrant, he called the boy a sinner,

She saw him for what he was, in her eyes he was a winner.

A man of God is what her father claimed to be,

In his single-minded judgement, he often couldn't see

That people, were people, reguardless of beliefs or race,

A person shouldn't be judged based on their face.

But this is the way the story unfolds,

the father took joy in their pain, or so I am told.

After years and years, she escaped, and they met,

she flew to his arms, and they haven't let go yet
