I boarded the first train I met
En route for the western coast
Hoping to leave this place behind
With every skeleton and every ghost

The streets no longer glimmer
With the glinting promise of a future
Every time I patch things up
Something needs another suture

Your eyes look distressed at mine
When you asked why I'd leave my home
I need to get far from here
Truthfully I'm afraid to die alone

I'm tired of being civil
Of being the better man
This self sacrifice hurts more
Then you will ever understand

There's only so much I can take
Of baring my heart out on the floor
This emotional masochism
Is more than I bargained for

I never told you the night I left

I knew you'd throw a fit
So-called friend of mine
I didn't want talked out of it

Each memory is amplified
Passing every dune and every ridge
Hoping you would forgive and forget me
It's easier to burn than build a bridge

I watched the waves from my window
Being too afraid to jump on in
When the dam breaks you have to choose
Whether to sink or swim
