I chuckled. This was ridiculous. My mother was so worried, I hadn't seen her in years, and now she was in my room, looking all worried and flustered. Well, maybe she did have a point, I am 40 and single, living in a one bedroom apartment, in the middle of no where. Okay, she had a lot to worry about, but I'm doing fine. Nothing can break me.

"Hey mom" i spoke in bit of a whisper, as I sat in the corner of my small room. It seemed unreal, she has hated me ever since that day. "Mom, do you remember, before all this happened, when dad used to come with us to the diner after a night of bowling. When we used to come back at 2:00 am and no body would care. I still remember the waitress, Linda, her name was. I used to have a crush on her." My mother just sat there, in the adjacent corner to me. She didn't speak, just stared. I wonder what she was doing here. She never came to visit, and today, she was just there when I woke up.

"And do you remember when you took me to the beach and rented one of those inflatable canoes, and I took it alone, and went too far off, so you had to swim to me?" I continued. "And.... And do you remember when... When... When you used to love me. And tell me everyday? When you used to tuck me in, read me a bed time story, and whisper goodnight in my ear? I loved those times." Tears were rushing down my face, I broke, after all those years, I broke. "Do you remember when you cared?"

She stared. Just stared. Her lips parted a bit, as if she was getting ready to talk. "Your food" a man's voice came from her soft lips. A tray of food appeared in front of me, I ate, I was quite hungry. My mother disappeared and I was alone again. Maybe she can come back someday, to answer my questions. Does she remember? Before that day... Does she remember the love in her eyes reflected into mine? Just because of that one day, it was all gone, replaced by hatred and disappointment. I didn't do anything, but no one believes me. The judge, the jury, my lawyer, even my own family. They're all convinced I killed that boy. I didn't. I was saving him, saving him from the world.

*I am aware this is really short. I just couldn't help it.*
