You broke my heart,

You tossed it around,

You ground it into the dirt,

You stepped on it,

You effectively destroyed it.

And yet, why? Why?

Why is it that when you smile

And ask me how I'm doing,

Everything suddenly feels okay?

The pain is gone

The hole in my heart is filled,

And the wound is healed.

And I'm left alone

Choking on my unshed tears,

Choking, gasping on the irony,

Of my affection.
