On the subject of anime guys in shojo, there's a lot of stereotyping and assumptions going on. And that's okay, because in the world of anime and manga, stereotyping is sometimes a good thing! However, it doesn't making guessing who will end up with who any easier. Thinking of this,I have written this for the benefit of all otaku in hopes that it will come of some use when either reading manga, or maybe even drawing your own!

Basically, anime guys can be categorized into five types: Wild, Sporty, Princely, Nerdy, and Cute. The wildly popular anime, Ouran High School Host Club, almost accurately portrays this. Mori is "wild", the twins, Hikaru and Kaoru are "sporty", Honey is "cute" (duh!), and Tamaki is "princely" (in some wierd way). The only person who doesn't really fit is Kyouya, who is supposedly nerdy but is actually rather evil. Admittedly, not every single boy anime character can be fit into these sections, but most of them will.

The first type is the "wild" type. This might be the most popular type. The character could be anywhere from distantly cool to plainly perverted but looks really good. There are three subsections in the "wild" type: cat and cow. The cat type is cool. Most of them are a little on the perverted side (Tsukiyomi Ikuto from Shugo Chara, Ichikawa Arata from Moe Kare!!, etc.) but they are well loved and adored by most of the girl otaku population. They all are a little distant to the main character and often teases her. Still, they are usually the ones that win her in the end, which is just as well! Many of them usually are in possession of dangerous weapons: Hyuga Natsume from Gakuen Alice (Alice Academy) has his fire Alice,Sohma Kyo from Fruits Basket (Furuba) has his fists, Nagoya Chiaki from Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne has his Sinbad transformation thing, etc. Another thing is that most of them are astonishingly graceful and are able to leap very, very, very high. The cow type is usually silent and calm. The most obvious one is Sohma Hatsuharu, who actually is a cow (zodiac thing)in the anime, Fruits Basket. This type, while favored, rarely ever wins the main character's favor. A few less obvious ones are Kiryu Zero from Vampire Knight and Tsukimori Len from La Corda d'Oro (Kin'iro no Corda).

The next type is the "sporty" type. This type is less common, but there still are a few. The sporty type rarely wins the main character. A few examples are Hikaru and Kaoru from Ouran High School Host Club (as aforementioned), Hihara Kazuki from La Corda d'Oro, and Souma Kukai from Shugo Chara. They usually have a jovial if rather rougish voice accompanied with a fondness of jokes and an upbeat manner. They may tend to slightly tease the main character as well.

The third type is the "princely" type. These guys are usually rivals with the "wild" ones. They are favored as much as the "wild" type, and maybe even a bit more. Most of them have blonde hair, although Tsuchiara Ryoutaru from La Corda d'Oro has green. This section has by far the most characters, and they sometimes win. Their disposition is kindly and protective towards the main character, and the girl usually begins with leaning toward the "prince". However, the main character usually develops a liking for the "wild" type, which most likely appears before the princely ones. For example, Honda Takara from Moe Kare!! becomes the boyfriend of the main character, Wakamiya Hikaru, for awhile, but he eventually ends up leaving her (for a good if rather sadly generous reason). Hikaru then ends up with the "wild" one, Ichikawa Arata. Most of the "princes" are sort of bishounen (look a little like girls and could be dressed up as a girl and no one would know the difference), such as Sohma Yuki from Fruits Basket, Nogi Ruca fromGakuen Alice, Kitazawa Sora from Kitchen Princess, etc.

The fourth type is the "nerd" type. These ones are very, very rare. They usually have fond feelings for the main character, but just about plain NEVER end up with her. A few examples are Tobita Yu from Gakuen Alice and Minazuki Yamato from Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. The nerdy type usually wears glasses and is class president, consequently being called iinchou, which means class president. They are called iinchou more than they are called their actual names, which is quite sad. However, one very very different "nerd"character that doesn't have glasses, isn't class president, and ends up (probably) with the girl he likes is Sakai Yuuji from Shakugan no Shana. This is quite phenomenal,so let's all give Yuuji a round of applause!

The last type is the "cute" type. These ones are the easiest to identify. They usually never have more than a friendship feeling for the main character, although, in the case of Shimizu Keiichi from La Corda d'Oro, this is sometimes different. A few"cute" characters are Sohma Momiji from Fruits Basket, and Honey from Ouran High School Host Club (mentioned earler).

Hopefully, this analysis was quite useful and interesting to you. If not, blame me, because I wrote it (no freaking duh). Happy anime reading, and may you like all the anime that you ever come across (doubtful)!!!!!
