How many of you love the nostalgia of a good fantasy or science fiction novel? I mean the first one you grab when it’s raining, you’ve just made yourself your favorite flavor of tea or coffee, and you’re in your favorite area of the house. You’re relaxed, you’re comfortable, and you’re ready to dive right into the vast world of imagination.

Well, this is the book for you. Jaz Johnson has created a world that can’t be ignored. Or fully explained in just one book. She has published the first book of her action-packed, heart-felt trilogy. It’s got everything you could ask for. Characters you love, characters you hate, characters you hate to love, and love to hate. There is life, there is death, and there’s everything in between and even beyond in some cases.

This female protagonist (Saphora), who is plagued with amnesia when crash landing on Earth at a young age, must go through her life as an ordinary human being. Only she’s anything but. After a sibling rivalry broke out into full blown war, the queen of the Kiran Kingdom has no choice but to send her little one away with her guardian – a whole nother area that is just freaking awesome.

Guardians are a vast majority of species on this other planet (Athena). They range from dragons, to drakons, to tusk-bearing lions, to huge deer, to phoenixes, to monstrous serpents, to tiny house mice, to giant tortoises. Each person, if born with power (I’m guessing), connect with a guardian when they’ve reached certain potential. (I’m dying to find out more about them in the second book) Anyway once they connect they can alter their forms to be more human looking, allowing them to walk among people and fight along side their companions in different ways. (Makes for amazing fighting scenes. She does a great job with description.)

She’s even managed to comfortably fit some romance in there! And not so much that it’s like “Oh god, they’re going to make out every time they see each other”. But enough to keep you interested in the actual storyline as well as their relationship. I see it all the time, stories getting too wrapped up in the romance aspect an forget they’re writing a fantasy/scifi and not an erotica. But this is actually fairly balanced.

Look, I could go on about this for ages, but you’ll never really know until you read it yourself. So go check out Saphora vol. 1 Retention and see for yourself. Get ready for nostalgia.

Here’s the amazon link. It’s also on kindle.

For those of you who HAVE read it, what did you think??? I'm eager to hear from other Saphora fans!
