This poem was written as a summary for a very emotional time in my life. I contemplated the contents of a tear, other than the obvious.

What's in a tear?

  clear, salty drops.

That fall from my eyes,

  no destination, or stops.

A mixture of feelings,

  some happy, some sad.

Risen from memories,

  some good, some bad.

Purpose unclear,

  at times risen from fear.

Laughter can bring,

  the very same thing.

They don't eat, breath, or sleep,

  nor contain a heartbeat.

They don't lie, cheat, or steal,

  silent words they often reveal.

Sometimes we're ashamed,

  of the emotions they claim.

We'd often prefer,

  our face left unstained.

But what's in a tear?

  so beautiful and clear.

The spring of our eyes,

  we foolishly hide.

Our desires, our sins,

  flow from women and men.

Our honor and pride,

  we keep hidden inside.

The longing for touch,

absence that hurts us so much.

So why do I hide,

  this passion inside?

In the shape and form,

  of a tear...
