I remember a time when you said you loved me. When I was your entire world, and we were happy. The sun rose and set nicely, and the world seemed in order. Everyone seemed content.
But apparently, you weren’t. You grew further, and further away, until you were just hanging on by a string. And I held onto you tight. Remember, how I never let go. How, even though you had your foot out the door, I still welcomed you in.
And now what? It’s all a distant memory to me. But you still remember? How? When I was the one who fought for us. I was the one who lived for us. I held on, even after you let go.
When you let go, it was almost in reverse. It felt like I was the one falling. I fell for years. I was alone, and sad. How could you not expect someone to catch me?
Did you think I would just live alone, wallowing in the broken relationship we shared? Did you think I would just live my life hoping that you would come back to me. Do you really think I’m that pathetic?
Of course you do. Because that’s just the way you are, self-centered, annoying, and unable to make a commitment.
Two years. That’s how long we were together. That’ how long it took you to leave me. And I really thought… no, never mind. You’re not worth it.
So now what? On this day, this most amazing day, you decide to come back to me? Why? What have I got now that I didn’t have before?
It’s him, isn’t it? You don’t like him, do you? Better yet, you don’t like me with him. You’re just so against my happiness. Am I not allowed with anyone but you? You thought I was just going to wait around for forever?
I’m not alone, and I am happy. So I want you to leave, and go sit in your seat like a good friend. Watch me walk down the aisle, and don’t object. And remember that you left me for her, and you better be happy about it.
You broke my heart, you broke your promise, you forgot me. Now, it’s my turn.
