Rainy Day

the rain

patters on the window

like the tiny feet of

neglected children

terrified and

huddled in the corner.

I press my warm hand

to the foggy glass window

and

embrace the sudden shock

of the cold.

my thoughts are tangled together

like a handful of chains.

I close my eyes,

remembering summer days

that last forever and

sitting under trees

rejoicing in the shade.

I gossip with the birds

and tell secrets to the grass.

Alas, I am abrupty brought

to reality when I open my eyes

again.

I spend the day in a crevice

the only one without cobwebs;

my only company is my books:

where I dwell...

my sketchbook:

where I dream...

and the

four and a half dead flies,

resting on the windowsill:

for whom I pity.
