I left you a note when I was about to crack

'I'm leaving tonight and I'm not coming back'

I wasn't out for very long, it was dark and cold

And I felt lonelier than ever with no-one to hold

My relationships with family had fallen apart

And I was under the illusion I could have a fresh start

And when I was found I realised what I'd done

I'd broken the hearts of my dad and my mum

They blamed themselves for treating me bad

And couldn't just see that I was desperately sad

In my head, running away was kinder than suicide

But of course, in their heads, I had already died

'Is it okay for us to find you in a ditch?

You never think of us, you're a selfish bitch!'

I remember that clearly, wishing I was dead

I couldn't see they were frightened of what was going through my head

And the next day that I went back to school

I suddenly was noticed and not taken as a fool

People regretting how they treated me in the past

Teachers and staff taking me out of class

To ask about the note that I had previously left

To ask if everything was okay and peaceful in my head

I denied it of course, gave no information

And after a week of interrogation

They left me alone, sent me back to class

Nothing was said and no more was asked

Until suddenly, somewhere, someone saw through

Things became clearer as they saw my battle wounds

But instead of telling me it's not okay

They gave me plasters and wipes and sent me on my way

Of course they said to tell them if I ever hurt that bad

Thing is, I just can't tell people when I'm feeling so sad
