Berenice by Edgar Allen Poe is the inspiration. But aside from that, this poem is about unoriginal leeches that mooch off the work of others.

If you need a poet

Do not trust me

I am an unreliable narrator

Whose wrting comes from rambles

Whose art comes from hallucinations

Of my schizophrenic shocks

Whose Hell comes from water

Whose pain comes

But is accompanied by blissful innocence

What did I mean when I said those words?

Did I quote your source,

Your inner writer, your alter ego?

Did I alarm you when I said,

"Mimicry is the highest form of flattery

Therfore, you are smothering Mr. Poe?"

We all know what I am not.

That is,

Do you know I am not to be imitated?
