Enrica was singing loudly to herself in an empty mansion. Her parents were at work like always nothing new about that. She glanced idly from where she sat with her laptop, and looked out the window. Enveloped in self despair she observed a solitary figure in the backyard. Enrica caught a glimpse of the boy against a tree. Odd this is private property what’s someone doing out here?
Curiosity got the better of her; she put down the laptop, and walked through the quite empty house. Slowly, Enrica walked to the boy her raven black hair which went down to her middle back trailing behind her. She walked right up to the boy his back was leaning against the back of an oak tree.
“What are you doing here on this lovely May day all by yourself?”
She was trying her hardest to be polite to the stranger who appeared on the property. Enrica took a step closer to the boy. Taking a closer look at him he was about Enrica’s age around fifteen years old. She was within arm’s reach of the strange boy in her backyard.
“Why are you all alone in a giant house on a clear May Day loathing yourself and everyone else?”
She looked shocked by the true revelation that the odd boy had just said. She was shocked about how he could know so much about her. After all she had just met the boy, so how did he know who she was. She looked confused at the boy for a moment.
“I know this because I am you.”
Enrica looked at the boy with curiosity, and was about to speak. The boy grabbed her arm, and pulled himself up so he was now standing. His hands going up her arms towards her shoulders. Suddenly and painfully her back was against a tree, and his hands were tightening around Enrica’s neck. She was gasping for air, and after a minute she collapsed.
“Curiosity killed the cat.”
She lay dead at his feet an evil grin apparent on the stranger’s face. The tree, man, and a dead Enrica disappear.
Sweat was running down Enrica’s face. She hesitantly felt her neck; she was surprised when she felt bruises on her neck still sore. She lay back onto her bed shacking off the dream that just happened. Enrica’s back was to the door. The door slowly opened revealing a young boy walking towards the bed. An evil smirk on his face, as he reached out towards the young girl in the bed. He walked closer ever so slowly towards where she lay, and put his hands around her neck before uttering.
“Curiosity killed the cat.”
Inside her thoughts Enrica was slowly fading quietly. Her thoughts of self loathing were coming true or maybe not. A memory stirred of the man by the tree, and started playing in her head over and over. What really happened that day no one knows.
