She hadn't expected something to happen.
She was a girl and he was a boy and they were strangers.
In fact, she hadn't expected anything to happen.
So imagine her shock when the boy, the one whom she had just flashed her absolute best smile at, hit his bike in a fence and fell off. There was a loud crash, followed by a yelp of pain.
And while a small part of her was ridiculously flattered he had actually noticed, a bigger part  was so much more scared something had happened to him.
So she didn't even think before rushing to his aid.
He could have been a psycho killer or a rapist but why bother thinking, really?
"Oh my God! I'm so sorry, are you okay?"
By that time, her hands were all over his arms, the smile incident already forgotten. By her, anyway.
"Yes, I'm fine. Don't worry." He answered, gently peeling her hands off him.
She blushed, and looked down, the boy mirroring her movements precisely.
"I'm Josh." He said, after a excruciatingly long pause.. He took out his hand for her to shake.
She gladly accepted  the offered contact, gripping his hand  firmly. What was that her grandma used to tell her? Always have a firm handshake?
She was too shaken for such distant recollections.
"Gillie." The girl answered, a lock of brown hair falling from behind her ear.
"That's a nice name." Josh said as he got up.
Slightly startled by his underestimated frame, Gillie took a minute longer. At that moment, however, Josh did not hesitate in handing her a hand.
"Thanks." She took it and together, they fell in a slow-paced walk, side by side.
"It's from Gillian." She said, and when she received a puzzled look, expended. "My name, it comes from Gillian."
"Oh." Josh said, slightly taken aback by the new piece of information. "Nice to meet you, Gillian."
