Through triumph and defeat,

We heed a demonstration.

Its presence still lingers while

Those magnetic words replay,

Ever so sweetly.

With fear and bravery,

A struggle submerged a dream.

Compassion and encouragement

Gave impact for freedom.

No man or woman shall ever stop

Fighting this war of discretion.

These conquests of our inner demons,

Spread out on a platter for the taking.

So sing with me of no more hate.

Of slaveries,

Nazis,

And Ku Klux Klans.

We’ll fight bare and with honor.

No more years of blacks and whites;

From 1955 to 1965 we had enough.

We lost but we won in many ways.

In my hands and in yours,

Separation can be annihilation.
