Contemplations on a Midnight Moon

Hand grasping,
Finger up,
Pious sneering,
"Lord, forgive me";
The Lord is not pleased.
Hands dirty,
Eyes red,
Shame suffocating,
"God, I sin, forgive me";
The Lord rejoices.
Hands wretched,
Eyes upward, dramatic,
Praying aloud for pious pride to hear,
"Lord, I sinneth, I beateth mine flesh into subservience; wash mine iniquity away";
The Lord can only hide.
