A close friend is really taking a beating from life, and another friend and I are trying to help her. She says she's worthless; this is me trying to explain why she's not.

I don’t have the words to say

What’s already been said before

By someone else

About you

The best that I can do is try to

Capture just a bit of who I’ve seen

You are and what

Makes you so unique

I’ve never met a person who

Can meet somebody new and make

Them feel so welcome

Like you do

And I’ve never known somebody

With a gift for giving help at any time of

Day or night regardless of

How they’re doing

And I’ve never seen a heart so light

And full of life while being wrapped in

Heavy chains of grief and

Loneliness and pain

Never have I seen such a blithe spirit in chains

Never have I known someone like you

Wow. This is incredible, powerful--there's such a strong beat to this, such a pulse. (Is this for her?) If so, you need to show it to her. She needs to hear something like this. And your writing style, too...sheesh, I can't ever get over it.

^-^ I wasn't even sure if I liked it that much. It's for her, yes. I wanted to say it to her Friday night but I couldn't find the words or the timing. But I really want her to read it, she needs to understand why she's awesome. Because, really, have you ever met anyone that does stuff the way she does? No. And if she left, there'd be no one to do the awesome stuff that she does.

I love how deep and powerful that sounds especially "Heavy chains of grief and loneliness and pain"

this hits home. she needs to know she has worth. you never know, no one else may be telling her. or she may have lived such a degrading life that her opinion of herself is now ingrained. who are we to pass judgement? had we lived the same life, perhaps we would have the same opinion of ourselves. perhaps not. but it is real for her, i imagine. and your kind words might be what she needs to hang on a little longer. you never know. i'm very glad you wrote this. i have someone in my life who is doing the same for me, and i keep telling her how hard it is for me to believe her, but you know what? i absolutely love every word of worth she gives me. good for you. you're sharing your strength. sometimes there's so little to go around.
