As I stumble down the old familiar streets
I know it’s futile but I try not to cry
But the memories and longing seem overwhelming
Why did she need to add us to her list of defeats?
~
I crouch and hide behind the old familiar tree
As I look up at the old familiar house I loved more than I knew
I am overwhelmed with something I can’t fully describe
But I know I’m happy at least you are free
~
She’ll come over sometimes with a hug and a fake smile
But her words mean nothing for all I see are past actions
I know I should forgive but that will take time
I’m sorry I’m sorry I know I seem hostile
~
I peek around the tree as I hear the door close
And I see you smile and I hear your laugh
Thank you old friend for the past but now
I’m afraid I must move on and I will have to see what grows
~
I know it took me longer than it ever could have you
To finally say goodbye for good
But I must finally wipe my tears and turn away
To finally bid you one last adieu
~
I don’t turn and watch as you turn to look at me
For I won’t look back but I’ll always remember
I’m sorry I’m sorry I know I seem sad
But I’ll never turn back that’s a guarantee
~
Even as you call my name I don’t need to look back
I try to drown your words and run faster as you get louder
I run forward to try and block the oncoming blow
If only you were aware of her newest attack
~
I run faster and everything about you seems to fade
You stop running for me and your voice grows faint
I don’t turn back but I stop as well on these old familiar streets
You’ll never know how much on my heart our memories weighed
~
