For me, this poem is simply an expression of how we cannot always obtain what we desire, but we do not give up, we enjoy what we can have, and enjoy the desire of the Other.

Oh what joys we could share
If only you were here
With me
Oh what vanquished fears
If only you were here
With me
But I do not expect it
What good is a dream when you awaken to reality
But for now I will dream
I will see you in my mind
Fueled be my desire
Content as you bind
My soul with your fire
Such purity I see in you
An innocence belying your true self
A power beseeching your walls
Oh what joy I could feel
If you would kneel
Beside me
Of what fear we’d kill
If you would kneel
Beside me
But I do not expect it
For we are not meant to be
We will laugh and love
But never as lovers
But for now
I will dream.
