The Old Warrior sits near trail's end.
Plenty of life left; he does pretend.

But truth be told, with every breath;
soon his journey, would end in death

No worries, no fears, and little regret.
He sits there alone; his memories beset

Friends and family; places he's been.
Times long lost, back when he was thin.

His children raised; his wife now gone.
A job well done, and he passed the baton.

No use to the world, or so he does think.
Goodbyes to all, with a nudge and a wink.

Old friends appear now, from memories past.
To help him along, the group is so vast.

Now back on his trail, as he's almost done.
With a hop and a skip, he has some fun.

What lies ahead, intrigues him now.
He stops at the end, and takes a bow.

"It's the end of the trail", he proudly boasts.
As he takes out a flask, and gives a toast.

"To life and love, and those left behind."
"I'll see you again, so never you mind."

And with that he stepped - past the trail's end.
Off the path; through the light, he did ascend.

To Heaven he's gone, to be with his Lord.
Eternal life and love, is his grand reward.
