I watched the boy they called Lonely
cross the bridge
He held on to his mother like she was his purpose
He looked down upon the water's reflection

He wondered where they were going

His mother did not pay attention to his question
But watched distant clouds with distant eyes

He climbed upon the guard rail
And smiled at himself
A tight rope walker in Barnum & Bailey's
The crowd cheered at his amazing feat

His mother let go of his hand
