Laugh At Me
A knock at the door in the rented room. Could it be her? I had asked here to come her five minutes ago, thats not a bad sign. I opened the door.
There she stood, beautiful with her hair down to her shoulders and her deep, searching eyes. And behind her...oh god, no.
Her best friend, smiling. Another of their roommates looking bored. This is not going to end well, I thought. I stepped aside to let them in. Her friend nosed around my room, which I had been sharing with my friend for the past two days and was a bit of a tip.
“Whats that smell?” her friend asked.
“Tea. We're all out I'm afraid, we just had 2 cups each,” I said, laughing nervously.
She turned to me, asking so lightly and politely; “So what did you want?”
Scuffing my shoes, I looked down at my feet. This was the worst bit, the anticipation. They had lined up at one wall, the three of them, like a shooting a squad aiming 3 guns at me. Who would not get shot?
“Well...will you go out with me?” I said.
It all went wrong. Her best friend laughed so hard that it looked like she would explode. Her roommate was slapping her knees in laughter. I blushed so vividly, I looked like a strawberry.
She just smiled though, smiled and said gently: “I'll think about it.”
When they were gone, I collapsed onto my bed. God, that was embarrassing.
