“Beep!  Beep!  Beep!...”  The repetitive disturbance intrudes upon my dreamland, turning and twisting the once peaceful plot into a hectic avalanche of regret.  One swift movement and the unwelcome interlude halts in its tracks while ten full minutes of ultimate bliss seems like the gift of a lifetime.  As I descend into my drifting dreamscape, my flannel comforter takes on a new warmth and my feather pillow becomes my lifesaver as I wrap my arms around its fluffy mass in quiet defiance.

“Beep! Beep! Beep!...”  I’m not quite ready yet, just two more minutes, I swear.  The formative details of my unconscious thoughts spring forth in uniformed procession beneath my eyelids leaving me content in the clarity of their revelations.  Unable to ignore the constant verbal reminder of my dues, I take one sneak peak at the neon digits to my left, if I turn right they disappear, but I’m still left with a nagging sense of responsibility…it is time.

I initiate my feet, wiggling free of my tight cocoon, feeling the chill nip at my toes.  I silently will the energy into my body from the bottom up, trying desperately to trick my mind into the, “Oh, I’m so excited it’s the first day of school” syndrome.  Always failing miserably of course, but at least a nostalgic smile replaces an otherwise unhappy camper-like expression, if only for a moment.
