November 17th, 1519. 8:37 AM.

"Get back here! you'll pay for that!" Ignazio ran from the baker as fast as his 14-year-old legs could carry him. Up a stack of barrels, onto the rooftops, all while managing to keep hold of the stolen bread. By now, the nearby janissaries had begun chasing after him, but without their guns pointed, much to his relief. It wasn't his fault he stole the bread. Not really. He had to, for his mother, since she was out of a job and they were nearing starvation. As he was bounding from awning to awning, he suddenly tore through an old mildew stained one. Rolling to his feet, Ignazio jumped off the small balcony, apologizing to the woman behind the door over his shoulder. Landing on a lower, unsteady terrace, he felt the floor trembling. Much to his surprise, the entire terrace broke off and collapsed to the ground, on the alley floor. Luckily, Ignazio groped about for a split second, and his hand found, and latched on to, the bottom of the door frame. Recgonizing the stolen loaf of bread on a loose stone above him, jutting out from the building. At this time, as he realized he dropped the bread, the janissaries caught up to him, the crashing terrace having caught their attention. Looking down at the 14-year-old thief from the balcony he had previously lept from, the guards yelled at him to 'get up here' and 'surrender at once'.
