She hopped from rock to rock, water splashing her feet as the waves crashed against the shore. The light surrounding her called to him—had his feet pushing through the sand of the dunes, his knees popping with each step. His blue eyes glazed over and his lips parted, as he moved closer. Pink silk hung loosely from her body, the hem of the dress flowing past her calves.

He swallowed hard, ignoring the pounding of his heart in his throat, and stepped onto a rock. She looked up, brushing strands of her dark brown hair behind her ear. Her honey colored eyes met his, and she smiled. His fingers reached out, almost grasping the silk fluttering in the breeze.

“Dad! What are you doing?” A soft hand gripped his thinning bicep.

He looked over his shoulder, seeing the same honey eyes staring up at him.

“She’s not there, dad.” His daughter frowned.

“I saw her—” His breath hitched as he pivoted.

He blinked, dropping his hand. No dress flitted in the wind, and no woman stood on the rocks.

He groaned as he stepped down off the rocks. “She looked the same.”

“I know, dad. I know.”
